Papaya

Papaya, also known as Carica papaya, is a tropical fruit native to Mexico and Central America, now widely grown in tropical and subtropical regions around the world. Typically, the fruit has an elongated shape and can be as large as 20 inches, although most found in the market are about 7 inches long and weigh about one pound. The skin of the papaya ranges from green when unripe to orange or yellow when it matures. Inside, the flesh is a rich orange color with a central cavity filled with black, rounded seeds.

The scent profile of papaya is complex and distinctive, characterized primarily by its sweet and musky aroma, often described as similar to cantaloupe or other melons, but with a deeper tropical intensity. Ripe papaya releases a lush sweetness, complemented by undertones that can resemble that of apricot or peach. The ripening process enhances the fruit's fragrance, making it more pronounced as it softens. This delectable aroma makes papaya a popular ingredient not only in culinary dishes but also in fragrances and scented products where a tropical, fruity note is desired.
