Kelp

Kelp, a type of large brown seaweed, thrives along rocky coastlines, forming dense underwater forests that are rich in biodiversity. Structurally, kelp possesses a root-like holdfast for anchorage, a stem-like stipe, and leaf-like blades that float thanks to bulbous gas-filled bladders.

The scent profile of kelp is distinctive and strongly maritime. Fresh kelp typically exudes a clean, briny aroma reminiscent of salty ocean air mixed with a slightly earthy or grassy undertone, similar to moist, mineral-rich soil. This natural fragrance encapsulates the essence of the sea and is often more potent when kelp is wet and freshly harvested. As it dries, the intensity of its odor diminishes, evolving into a more subdued, almost sweet, seaweed-like fragrance. This oceanic scent is sometimes described as invigorating and refreshing, evoking the vast, open seas where it originates.
